The blade has areas of light staining consistent with age. It has a 175mm steel dagger blade with medial ridge. The cracks are stable and the hilt and blade secure with no movement. The wood handle has a couple of fine old stable cracks near to the cross guard only visible on close inspection. The hilt is natural wood with grooved grip and an oval steel cross guard (these daggers were made with both steel and brass cross guards, see item 9.33 page 137 of Flook’s book). Sn 19035 - 19035Īn original WW2, FS Far East Operations dagger and correct scabbard in very good condition (see of The Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook). WW2 Wood Hilt Fairbairn- Sykes, FS Far East Commando Fighting Knife & Correct Scabbard. The dagger is complete with original scabbard with nickel plated chape. It has a clean 171mm double edged dagger blade with medial ridge. See page 95 of ‘the Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife & Other Commando Knives By Flook where he describes the ‘56’ mark as being one of 2 WD marks found on nickel finish examples (the other being ‘60’) & illustrates a ‘56’ marked 1st pattern handle example of the Officer’s Nickel finish 2nd Pattern and describes how similarities in ‘56’ marked knives and other knives without Wilkinson logos has led many collectors to conclude that they are in fact a Wilkinson product). This is a rare example of the WW2, 2nd Pattern, Officer's fighting knife with 1st Pattern knurled nickel plated hilt and 2nd pattern oval cross guard which has WD stamp ‘56’. Sn 19409 - 19409Ģnd Pattern 'FS' Fighting Knives were introduced in 1941. **RARE**ORIGINAL 1st PATTERN HILT**WW2, 2nd Pattern, Wilkinson British Officer's, Nickel Plated, Fairbairn Sykes FS Fighting Knife With ‘56’ WD Inspection Mark & Scabbard. Also accompanying the knife is a clean, period embroidered King’s crown Parachute Regiment shoulder flash. As is common the belt loop’s elastic retaining strap is absent and a small eyelet contemporarily cut in the top of the belt loop (this allowed soldiers to attach their weapon to their uniform). As is common with these scabbards its 4 sewn on leather tabs have been contemporarily cut back. It is complete with original scabbard with external brass chape. It has a 174mm long double edged blade with medial ridge. The top of the cross guard is stamped with War Dept 'B2' and WD broad arrow designation. A copy of a letter dated 2007 from a friend of Sgt Faulkner identifying the knife as belonging to him and additional notes added by a previous owner regarding Sgt Faulkenham’s Regiments actions on D-Day accompany the piece and can be read in image 2.
